5 Ways Your Small Business Can Engage Local Customers
During the pandemic, many shoppers turned to online alternatives to local goods and services. Unsurprisingly, this made it hard for local businesses to stay afloat, especially when many were forced to shut down during lockdowns and social distancing orders. In the wake of the pandemic, many local businesses are still struggling to get those customers back.
Engaging your local customers is key to competing with big online brands and restoring the community spirit that keeps small businesses alive and thriving. Today, Cedar Creek Nebraska explores a few ways your business can garner more attention from local patrons and show appreciation for the customers that stuck with you through the past few years.
1. Highlight the Benefits of Shopping Local Through Marketing
Small businesses like yours represent the community and play an integral role in keeping people connected. It’s important that locals understand this. When you’re creating marketing campaigns for your business, try to highlight the benefits community members can gain by supporting local companies.
Display banners on your website and social media profiles to highlight other local businesses that are giving back to the community in one way or another. If you decide to work with a graphic designer, you’ll want to have an easy file conversion tool on hand. Since designers tend to work in specialized programs, you may need to convert files between JPGs and PDFs to view and provide comments. Fortunately, converting from PDF to JPG is simple with a free online tool. Just drop in the file, select the new file type, and save the updated version.
2. Focus on Local SEO
In the post-pandemic era, more people are shopping online than ever before. According to WebFX, 97% of search engine users look for local businesses online. What’s more, a whopping 80% of these local searches result in conversions! If your local SEO is lacking, you’re missing out on a large portion of potential customers. Here’s how to boost your local SEO:
-
Create a Google My Business Page
-
Encourage customers to review your business on Google
-
Respond to Google reviews, both positive and negative
-
Engage with people on social media
-
Optimize your website tags, headers, meta description, and content
3. Engage with Your Community
Getting involved in your community is key to showing local patrons you care. Look for ways to make your business visible. Participate in local events, offer free services or discounts to local organizations like libraries and nonprofits, work with your local paper, run workshops for community members, sponsor events, and join your local chamber of commerce. Not only will this make your customers feel appreciated, but it will show community members that you care about the other small businesses that keep the community alive.
4. Collaborate with Other Local Businesses
Collaborating with other local brands is a great way to boost your visibility and create a sense of community spirit. Fundbox suggests starting a Facebook page for all the small business owners in your area, encouraging others to share their business information and collaborate on virtual events.
You can also work with other businesses to create promotions. Promote each other’s products in your social media posts and blog articles, or partner up and offer discount codes to each other’s stores. Whenever possible, outsource and refer customers to other local businesses in your area.
If your business is in an area with several other local businesses, take advantage if your area is a walkable one and offer some community promotions together. Having your businesses so close together means you can do a themed night, throw a street party, or come up with another creative way to gather people near your businesses.
5. Build a Compelling Brand
Creating a strong brand identity can help your business stand out and attract local patrons. Building a brand will help your target audience identify with your business. To develop your brand, think about the purpose of your business. What do you stand for? What is your overarching mission? Once you’ve defined your purpose, you can craft your messaging, tone of voice, and other branding elements to capture the attention of customers who believe in the same thing.
Connect with Your Community
Local businesses rely on community members to succeed and thrive. Create a business that local patrons want to support. Boost your visibility by getting involved in the community, showing your appreciation to local shoppers, and aligning your brand with the interests and values of your audience. These initiatives will help you build your presence and connections in the community.

Blood is always in high demand by those with cancer, a chronic disease, sickle cell, or if they've suffered trauma, such as a fall, accident or burn.
Power Red: A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood.
Blood: The most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of 'whole blood' is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour.
There are several ways and types of donations that are desperately needed. The information at the following link will explain each way your particular blood type can help, who it helps, the time it takes to donate and how often you can donate.
